What Is A BookBox Story?
Have you ever had an idea that was so obvious you smacked your forehead and said "duh!" BookBox is just that kind of idea. Developed by Dr. Brij Kothari, Ashoka Fellow and Founder/President of PlanetRead (one of only four worldwide initiatives funded by the Google Foundation), a BookBox story combines visually appealing animated stories with same language subtitling (SLS). The result is a story that can help children master basic literacy skills or learn new languages.
For over ten years, SLS stories have been helping children read internationally. The use of Same Language Subtitling has won numerous awards and received the praises of numerous North American organizations including the New York Times which proclaimed, "Such subtitles could be used worldwide to increase literacy, and cost almost nothing."
