Our Vision
To Read or Not to Read? There is no question - absolutely!

Plain and simple, we want children reading! According to the National Endowment for the Arts' "Reading At Risk" study, the rate of decline in literary reading is accelerating and the steepest decline is in the youngest age groups. Our vision is to make reading fun, to help adults model reading in the home, and to celebrate the joy of reading with community.

Starting in 2006, Reading Party will offer a comprehensive web site featuring literacy information including statistics, literacy intitatives, articles and research, recommended books, and reading suggestions. By 2007, we hope to begin two exciting new programs that will redefine the idea of literacy outreach: in-home reading parties and hospital-based literacy programs.

Why the name "Reading Party." We believe that the act of reading should be celebrated. Children should be encouraged to think of reading as a "party of the mind," where all things can happen and where imagination can soar.

We believe that reading begins in the womb and continues throughout life. Our goal is to educate the parents of infants and toddlers - to help them understand that reading well directly correlates with academic excellence and, more importantly, directly relates to individual self-esteem. We believe that the gift of reading is the most precious legacy that a parent can give to his/her child and it is a legacy that directly impacts all future generations.

We are committted to a society where every single individual can read. We are committed to a world that cherishes and respects the written word - a world that understands the way past poverty and disease, past ignorance and violence, is through reading.
